Due to an increase in the preventive health activities, the health
department modified its organogramme to cope with the coordination and
management of programmes and activities as shown above.
The Diocese through its
Medical Board continued to implement the HIV/AIDS prevention in accordance to
the ELCT HQ directions. This year various activities were implemented in
different parts of the Diocese. The Ilula health centre dealt with both,
Hospital based care and counselling while dispensaries dealt mainly with
community awareness through health education. However lack of funds to run the
programme is our major constrain.
Activities conducted
include;
·
Sensitisation seminars to church leaders
·
Peer health education
·
Counselling
·
Treatment of AIDS related infections
·
STD case management
·
Training of Confirmation class teachers
Despite
efforts to raise both community and individual awareness, the AIDS problem is
still alarming in most areas of the Diocese. More efforts are still needed to
reach the communities, and especially those at most risk.
