Laboratory

 

Bloodtransfusions : 149 units to 138 patients

                                284 donors checked with capillous test for HIV infection,

                                  60 were positive that means 21,126%, taking into acount the

                                   possibility of wrong positives and the small number., we count on a

                                   prevalence of 16 to 21 %. The capillous test is only used for safety

                                   of blood transfusions. For testing of patients and clients who come

                                   for voluntary testing, blood samples are send for ELISA tests to

                                   Mbeya. The number of negative results increased together with the

                                   Increasing demand for voluntary testing.

 

HIV ELISA Testing: A Total of 505 persons were tested, 200 negativ 297, positiv.

                                   Therein included are  114 clients who came for voluntary testing.

                                    From the voluntaries were 75 negativ, 37 positiv, 6 need repetition.

Other tests performed are Gramstain and wet preparations of cervical or high vaginal smears, Sperma  Count and still Widal Test with and without titration.
