PRODUCTION MUSHROOM BY COMMUNITY GROUPS IN NKORANGA DISTRICT COAST REGION.
Besides adding a wonderful earthy taste and meaty texture to food, mushrooms also contain essential nutrients. There are many health benefits to eating mushrooms. They are a great source of minerals needed by our body - such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium. These nutrients are often lacking in our highly processed-food diets. In addition, mushrooms contain virtually no fat or cholesterol - substances that predispose people to heart diseases and persistent increased blood pressure leading into stroke and other serious long term diseases. Mushrooms are naturally low in sodium; mushrooms are also a good source of fiber that helps the process of food digestion in the body. ELCT - PHC Project has done social research in the area to find health priorities for communities in Nkoranga area. One of priorities to focus on will be to improve nutritional status of communities around ELCT Dispensaries in Nkoranga District by collaborating and capacity building of the Community-Based Groups in Community-Based Health activities.
